Giving to the Campaign

Non-tax deductible gifts may be given directly to The Beta Foundation through the Campaign. Mail checks, payable to The Beta Foundation, to Beta of Chi Phi Campaign, PO Box 390528, Cambridge, MA 02139-0006.

Although The Beta Foundation is a non-profit organization, we cannot directly accept tax-deductible gifts. However, through an arrangement with The Society for the Preservation of Greek Housing (SPGH), a 501(c)3 organization, brothers can make donations to preserve the historic Beta Chapter House at 32 Hereford Street that may be eligible for full tax-deductibility.

  • Donations to SPGH are treated like donations to any other 501(c)3 charitable, nonprofit organizations. Such donations are usually tax deductible. Exceptions may include people who are subject to AMT, people subject to "phase outs," or people who do not itemize deductions. The Beta Foundation of Chi Phi is not a tax adviser, and you should consult with your tax adviser if you have any questions about deductibility.

Checks should be made out to: Society for the Preservation of Greek Housing, Tax ID: 371294139, Special Purpose Designation: Beta Chi Phi program. Mail checks to Beta of Chi Phi Campaign, PO Box 390528, Cambridge, MA 02139-0006.

Bequests, gifts of appreciated stock, and the addition of The Beta Foundation to life insurance policies are also welcome forms of generosity. Please contact the Campaign Committee to work out the details.

Making a Pledge

Pledged gifts may be given over five years. Because of the magnitude of our goal, we have structured a five-year payment period to make it possible for brothers to increase the size of their campaign pledges. Pledges made during the campaign will be counted toward the campaign totals.

If you'd like to discuss your pledge, contact Campaign Committee Chairman Bill Frezza '76, or your class captain.

Pledge forms for you to sign and mail can be downloaded here. Please note: donors using Donor Advised Funds (see below) should contact Campaign Committee Chairman Bill Frezza before submitting a pledge form.

Philanthropy Tips

Many companies offer matching gift programs. If you (or your spouse) work for a company with such a program, contact the company personnel department for information on how to augment your gift to this campaign.

Donor Advised Funds, available through banks like Fidelity and Schwab, allow philanthropists potential advantages in making gifts of cash or stock, including audit-worthy accounting for disbursements to qualifying 501(c)3 organizations and the ability to take an immediate deduction while delaying disbursement (for example, in the case of appreciating investments). You may want to investigate the possibility of opening a DAF. Disbursements to the SPGH from a DAF are simple and routine. If you have reasons for setting one up, ask your preferred bank about Donor Advised Funds.
